Beaver Creek Watershed public meeting to be held March 23

March 4, 2010

A public meeting on the Beaver Creek TMDL (Total Maximum Daily Load) — or water quality study — will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, 5:30 – 7 p.m. at the City of Lynchburg Information Technology Center, 3550 Young Place, Lynchburg, Virginia.

Virginia agencies are working to identify sources of bacteria contamination in a portion of Beaver Creek within the James River Watershed in Central Virginia. This stream, which drains from Campbell County, has been listed on the Federal 303 D list of impaired waters and has been targeted for this study.

During this second and final public meeting, residents will be provided an overview of the water quality study findings and be given an opportunity to provide comment. In addition to the study results, attendees will be provided an overview of a regional water quality initiative that includes portions of Bedford, Campbell, and Amherst counties and the City of Lynchburg, which will take place over the next eight months.

Public comments for material presented at the March 23 public meeting may be submitted to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) via email, fax or postal mail until 11:59 p.m. on April 23, 2010. Written comments must be received during the comment period and must include the name, address, and telephone number of the person commenting.
