Lynchburg region to be featured in U.S. Airways in-flight magazine
Virginia's Region 2000 Partnership, together with The Lynchburg Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce are pleased to announce that Lynchburg, VA will be the featured city in the November issue of US Airways Magazine, the award-winning-in-flight publication of US Airways.
In addition to the 20+ page
printed editorial, the Lynchburg region will also be featured on www.usairwaysmag.com for a year. Read more here.

CAER to break ground for its new facility on Nov. 6!
With shovels in tow, the CAER Board of Directors will join local leaders, design team staff, and Region 2000 guests to break ground on its new research facility on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 at 9:30 am at the New London Technology Center, located on 460W in Bedford County.
The event will feature remarks from locally elected officials, Bedford County leaders, Tobacco Commission staff and Region 2000 guests. Design team members from Wiley|Wilson, Hurt & Proffitt, and others will be on hand to answer questions. An on-site reception will immediately follow. Bedford contributes to "Grow Your Own" campaign
The Bedford County Economic Development team, in collaboration with career coaches from CVCC, put the "Grow Your Own" campaign into action following a survey of area high school seniors. The survey was developed to learn the interests of high school seniors in an effort to match them with potential careers in the region.
The campaign has been expanded to include high school juniors and student trips to area employers. Read more here.

CVCC receives grant that will aid Region 2000's "Grow Your Own" initiative
 Central Virginia
Community College has
received a $149,830 grant from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to provide scholarships and support for the College's Nuclear Radiation
Technologies degree programs.
These programs are part of Region 2000's
"Grow Your Own" initiative, the region's highly successful

GLTC wins national award Gov. Timothy M. Kaine recently announced that the Greater Lynchburg Transit Company has received the 2009 Outstanding Transit System Achievement Award from the American Public
Transportation Association (APTA) for the second consecutive year.

YPCV's "Big for a day" a big hit

Let your voice be heard at Fall workshops!
James River Heritage Trail Meeting to be held Oct. 6
The James River Heritage
Trail is getting some attention at the state level! The Dept. of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is seeking public input on a series of maps to be used in highlighting attractions and recreational features along the river, and a conceptional plan for local government projects in need of funding.
Help
DCR discover and highlight the hundreds of significant historical sites,
cultural and recreational, and agritourism opportunities within Region 2000
along the banks waiting to be discovered and interpreted.

Help protect local water. Participate in an Extreme Stream Makeover
Join the James River Association and local partners in
protecting local water resources by participating in the James River
Association's Extreme Stream Makeover. Volunteer to work on a variety of restoration and
watershed protection projects in the Blackwater Creek Watershed including Peaks
View Park, Jefferson Forest High School, and Wards Road area.
Opportunities on Monday - Thursday, October 19 - 22, 2009 8:30 - 4:30 pm
At various
locations within the Blackwater Creek Watershed
Volunteer to work either full day (lunch served) or half day shifts (8:30 - 11:30 am (lunch after shift) or 1 - 4:30 pm.)
Some activities include
rain garden landscaping, rain barrel assembly and installation, and forest
buffer planting.

Summer youth employment program featured in video
The
Alliance
for Families and Childrens' Youth Summer
Employment Program was a huge success with 94 young adults gaining work experience. The six-week summer program was funded through a
$290,000 federal grant from the Region 2000 Workforce Investment Board.
