Local companies invited to participate in Military Job Fair
|
Virginia's Region 2000 Partnership welcomes local companies to join together in participating in the Military Job Fair of Virginia to be held Thursday, April 17, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Hampton Roads Convention Center in Hampton, Va.
"This is a first for our region," says Lee Cobb, executive director of the Region 2000 Economic Development Council. "We're seeking the help and partnership of local businesses in developing an effective regional strategy."
One of the biggest on the east coast, this job fair draws thousands of attendees and features more than 120 companies from around the nation. It is open to active-duty and recently separated military members and their families.
If your company would like to participate in this regional effort, please plan to attend a luncheon meeting on Feb. 19 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Region 2000 Partnership office, 828 Main Street, Lynchburg, 12th Floor. U.S. Route 29 corridor study to define highway improvements
|
The Virginia Department of Transportation is undertaking a regional corridor study called "The U.S. Route 29 Corridor Study (I-66 to North Carolina Line) -- Developing the Blueprint." Principally focused on that portion of the corridor, the purpose is to develop a long range blueprint that defines necessary highway improvements, as well as rail and public transit. This multimodal approach is necessary to manage increasing traffic volumes and reduce congestion. The effort is expected to be complete by November 2009.

CAER connects wireless companies with UVA professors

The CAER held a luncheon on January 14 at CVCC allowing Region 2000 companies to come face to face with professors and graduate students from the University of Virginia's Wireless Research Group. The luncheon provided networking opportunities for both researchers and business executives to discuss wireless research capabilities within Central Virginia.
"This type of interaction is critical to increasing the level of innovation in our region," CAER Executive Director Bob Bailey said. "We want to continue to provide opportunities like this one for educators and executives to come together and develop productive and beneficial relationships that lead to new ideas."

Region 2000 Service Authority to hold public meeting on Jan. 31
|
The Region 2000 Services Authority will hold an organizational meeting on January 31 at noon at Virginia's Region 2000 Partnership office, located on the 12th Floor of the Bank of the James Building, 828 Main Street, Lynchburg. The Services Authority has been created by the cities of Lynchburg and Bedford and the counties of Campbell and Nelson as an entity to coordinate regional solid waste disposal and other services beginning July 1, 2008. The Services Authority will contract operations and management of the regional landfill services to Virginia's Region 2000 Local Government Council. Wired Wednesday luncheon to feature JIEDDO speaker on Feb. 20

Join Virginia's Region 2000 Technology Council on Wed., February 20 for its next Wired Wednesday luncheon at the Wingate Inn Hotel from noon - 1:30 p.m. Colonel Dewey G. Ford with JIEDDO (Joint Improvised Explosive Devices Defeat Organization) is the featured speaker. JIEDDO is looking for companies and individuals that can contribute to its mission. Immediately following the luncheon there will be a time for companies that are already working on IED defeat programs to meet one on one with representatives from JIEDDO.
