Virginia's Region 2000 to be featured in August issue of Virginia Business
Virginia BusinessAn article focused on how Region 2000 integrates technology and education will appear in the August issue of Virginia Business magazine. The article tells the story of how Region 2000 localities have joined together with major employers and schools to create a seamless continuum of science and technology education that extends from grade school through advanced postsecondary degrees.
Kelly Hitchcock accepted to Natural Resources Leadership Institute

Kelly HitchcockRegional Development Specialist Kelly Hitchcock of the Local Government Council, was recently accepted as a fellow to the Virginia Natural Resources Leadership Institute, a program of UVA's Institute for Environmental Negotiation, the Virginia Cooperative Extension, and the Virginia Dept. of Forestry.

The program develops community leaders from across the Commonwealth to help groups involved in natural resources issues move beyond confict toward collaborative problem solving. Kelly will participate in six three-day workshop sessions beginning this fall.

Get Set website launched to help students and parents with career choices

Get SetThe Region 2000 Technology Council announces that its Get Set website in now live. The new and improved site will better serve the business community, teachers, parents and students, and help these groups find relevant information about careers, says Jonathan Whitt, Executive Director of the Technology Council. Regional water supply planning meeting to be held July 31
PedlarVirginia's Region 2000 Local Government Council, in conjunction with its member jurisdictions, will hold its third Water Supply Planning meeting on Thursday, July 31, from 4 - 6 pm at the Lynchburg Public Library Community Meeting Room, 2315 Memorial Avenue. The public is invited and may provide input into the plan. Read the full story here.
Amazement Square gets $10,000 to enhance museum experience
for guests with disabilities
The Central Virginia Disability Services Board (CVDSB) recently received $9,675 for Amazement Square to enhanAmazement Squarece the museum experience for guests with disabilities. The funds will go toward Braille gallery guides and signage, as well as closed captioning and listening devices for programs and school tours.

The CVDSB is comprised of members appointed by local government in the Region 2000 Local Government Council planning area. Government entities represented are, Amherst County, Appomattox County, Bedford County, Campbell County, City of Bedford and the City of Lynchburg.The CVDSB also has at large business representation on the board. Fall registration begins for CGEP graduate engineering courses

Computer guyThe Center for Advanced Engineering and Research (CAER) announces that fall classes are now open for registration in the Commonwealth Graduate Engineering Program (CGEP), based at CVCC. This program is designed to work well for both the traditional student, as well as the professional who wishes to pursue an advanced technical degree or take select courses based on his or her area of interest. Courses are streamed live from five universities: UVA, Virginia Tech, ODU, VCU, and George Mason.

Local companies invited to participate in military job fair held Oct. 21
job fair2Virginia's Region 2000 Economic Development Council and the Workforce Investment Board is once again making plans to support our country's military veterans and their families by participating in the Fall Military Job Fair of Virginia at the Hampton Roads Convention Center. The event is held on Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. We would like to take a group of local companies with us to recruit as a region. Please contact Traci Blido or call 847-1447.
