Governor McDonnell impressed with region during recent visit
Virginia's Region 2000 Partnership board members and investors participated in a presentation on Feb. 26 to Governor Bob McDonnell at CVCC, highlighting
the region's economic development assets and unique business environment.

Director, Region 2000 Economic Development Council, Darrel Staat,
President of CVCC, and Larry Hatch, President of Advanced Manufacturing
Technology, Inc. each addressed the Governor about various aspects of the regional
economy including workforce initiatives, technology based education and
the region's key business clusters.
"I'm so impressed with the level of regional cooperation, the ingenuity, and the innovation that continues to come out of Central Virginia," Gov. McDonnell told the crowd of more than 75. "We've got a team at the state level that really wants to be a partner with you to take the vision that you've got here and further the great work you're doing."

CAER and Lynchburg City Schools sign education agreement
The Center for Advanced Engineering and Research (CAER) has
established a Partners in Education Master Partnership with Lynchburg
City Schools to enhance and expand educational opportunities for
students in areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
(S.T.E.M.) The agreement will
open up
opportunities for students and teachers to utilize the lab space in the CAER's research
and education center which is set to open in late 2010. Read the Region 2000 press release here.

| Invite a YP to attend a monthly 5:35 event! Next one is April 8!
The Young Professionals of Central Virginia (YPCV) hosts a lively social event each month called the 5:35. Yes, it is held after work at 5:35 p.m. at a YP-friendly location in Region 2000 and offers professionals a forum to network and meet new friends in a safe, friendly environment.

Tech Council Awards Night is set for May 11. Tickets on sale now.
Award nominations now accepted
The Region 2000 Technology Council will host its 9th Annual Awards Night on May 11 at the Holiday Inn Downtown Lynchburg. Reserve your tickets now for the premier networking event of the year.
Tickets are $60 for individuals and $50 each for parties of two or more.
A limited number of tables (seating for eight) are available for $375. Register here.
Nominations for Innovator of the Year, Educator of the Year, and Technology Company of the Year are accepted through April 15, 2010. To nominate a person

Beaver Creek Watershed public meeting to be held March 23
A final public meeting on the Beaver Creek TMDL (Total Maximum Daily Load)
- or water quality study - will be held on Tuesday, March 23,
5:30 - 7 p.m. at the City of Lynchburg IT Center,
3550 Young Place, Lynchburg. Attendees will get
an overview of the water quality study findings and be able to provide comment. Read more here.

The CAER delivers training and development for scientists and engineers

For scientists and engineers in Virginia's Region 2000, the Center for Advanced Engineering and Research (CAER) can handle most professional development
opportunities. In addition to offering graduate and undergraduate engineering programs through its partners, the CAER can custom design and manage specialized seminars and technical conferences. On April 16, the CAER will host an 8-hour Corrosion in Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR) course at CVCC's Merritt Hall (Room 5141). This course will provide an overview on several forms of corrosion and some mitigation methods associated with pressurized water reactors. Cost is $325. U.S. Census forms arrive this week
In the next few days, over 120 million households in the country will
receive an envelope from the U.S. Census Bureau. Each question helps to determine how more than $400 billion will be
allocated to communities across the country for
infrastructure and services.

Invite a teen to explore engineering or technology at one of these events
Sweet Briar College will host Engineering for Girls weekend April 9-10 on campus. This event is for high school girls who are currently sophomores, juniors or seniors. CVCC Summer Academies - Registration began March 15 for this very popular one week event (Region 2000 Technology Council is a sponsor) which takes place during the first week of August at CVCC. Middle and high school students can choose from 22 career academies in such areas as aviation technology, nuclear technology, culinary arts, crime scene investigation and more. Amherst Chamber to host Business and Breakfast Trade Show April 15
The Amherst Chamber of Commerce will host its 2nd Annual Business and Breakfast trade show on April 15, 8 - 11 a.m. at the Madison Heights Community Center (next to Walmart.) Cost to attend is just $5 and includes breakfast by What a Blessing Bakery.
