Lynchburg MSA moves up in "best city" rankings for second straight year Region lands in 60th of the top 200 metros in the nation
The Lynchburg Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) moved up 11 positions
over last year in The Milken Institute / Greenstreet Real Estate
Partners Best Performing Cities Index, released on November 11, 2009.
The MSA includes the four-county Region 2000 geographic area,
surrounding the City of Lynchburg.

Construction begins on $7.6 million CAER research and education center Research to be focused on
nuclear energy and wireless technologies
More than 100 local business and government leaders came out to witness
the CAER ground breaking on Friday, Nov. 6 at the New London Business and
Technology Center in Bedford County. The CAER aims to strengthen the region's innovation economy through the work that will take place in
its $7.6 million research and education center. Lynchburg-based C.L. Lewis & Co., Inc. is constructing the facility, set to be complete by year-end 2010. Read more here.

Bryan David helps localities manage broadband initiatives
Since Bryan David joined the Region 2000 Economic
Development Council as Executive Director in 2008, he has been on a mission to
help localities pave the way for broadband technology to unserved or
underserved areas in the region. During this year, he has met with, presented to, answered questions, and guided
several localities in taking steps to create their own Broadband
Authority.

Water Quality Public Meeting to be held Dec. 3
Virginia's Region 2000 Local Government Council and the Virginia
Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will host a public meeting on
Thursday, December 3 at 6 p.m. at the Agricultural
Building, 163 Kabler Lane, Rustburg, Virginia.
Hear information and public comment on a water quality study for a portion of
Beaver Creek and its tributaries which drain from portions of Campbell
County. Kabler Lane is located
just off of Route 24/Village Highway, across from the Campbell County
Administrative Offices.

Registration now open for Spring Semester CGEP courses at CVCC
The CAER is registering students for the Spring Semester for graduate engineering courses through the Commonwealth Graduate Engineering Program at CVCC. Courses begin in January and run through May.

The Region 2000 Technology Council launched a new website this month at www.techcouncil.us. The new site allows Tech Council members to RSVP and pay for events, renew memberships, and connect with social media sites. You can also subscribe to Tech Council news and events via the RSS feed.

Region 2000 SBDC to hold Start Smart seminar for new business owners
The Region 2000 Small Business Development Center will hold a two-hour Start Smart seminar on Thursday, Dec. 3, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 147 Mill Ridge Road, Lynchburg for those considering starting a
business. Attendees receive startup information regarding recordkeeping,
marketing & market research, financing, taxes, insurance, legal
aspects and regulations. Special emphasis is placed on business
planning. This class also provides an excellent introduction to other SBDC services.

Gov. Kaine marks significant milestone for Business One Stop
Governor Timothy M. Kaine announced this month that Virginia's Business One Stop, an online tool, has been utilized by more than 15,000 entrepreneurs to aid their business operations and create jobs. The Business One Stop is an on-going project through the Virginia Department of Business Assistance and began in May 2008 to consolidate business licensing, registration and permitting into a single user-friendly system.
