CAER "tops out" the mPower™ tower at construction site
 | | Bob Bailey, VA Delegate Kathy Byron (Tobacco Commission member), and Bryan David stand in front of the mPower tower at the CAER facility site. |
The Center for Advanced Engineering and Research (CAER) joined C.L. Lewis and Wiley|Wilson in celebrating a construction milestone at a "topping out" party on Friday, Oct. 29 held at the CAER construction site in Bedford County.
The B&W mPower™ Integrated System Test facility (shown in background) will be a part of the CAER site once up and running in mid-2011. It will house a scaled prototype of the mPower™ reactor using water/steam for testing design and safety performance.
A $2.4 million grant by the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission was a key factor in the decision to locate the B&W test facility to the CAER.
The CAER serves as the region's premier source for industry innovation. The 30,505 square-foot facility will help the organization deliver targeted research and education solutions to local industries, as well as scientists and engineers. The facility is located in the New London Business and Technology Center with construction funded through a grant from the Virginia Tobacco Commission.
