As you can see, we have a lot going on this spring. The Council is growing and we want to invite you to participate wherever you see the fit. We welcome new input and hope to see you soon at an event as an attendee or a volunteer. Mark your calendars for our premier social event of the year, our Awards Banquet on May 25 - don't miss it!
 

Awards Nominations Open

The Region 2000 Technology Council is seeking nominations for our 3’rd annual Awards Banquet to be held May 25, 2006 at the Kirkley Hotel in Lynchburg, VA. As our premier-networking event of the year, the awards banquet recognizes the best and brightest in the region’s technology sector. Each year, we honor our corporate sponsors and the achievements in entrepreneurship, innovation, advocacy and education.


 
Tech-Smart Pipeline Committee 4.24

Members are encouraged to serve on one of three Council committees. Committee members meet once a month for a planning session over lunch. Interested members should contact the Council's office for more details. Our three committees are: Networking & Promotion, Technology Focused Advocacy, and Tech-Smart Pipeline. The Tech-Smart Pipeline Committee will hold its first meeting at CVCC on April 24, room 5114 at noon. Lunch will be provided to those that RSVP.


 
Member Breakfast 4.25

Our annual member breakfast will be held at Lynchburg College's Centennial Hall (room 232) on April 25 at 7:30am. Join fellow members for breakfast, networking, and a review of council activities from the Executive Director. Following breakfast, tours will be offered for interested members of the college's newest building; see the new TV studio, auditorium and more. Cost $5

Tech Fair 5.12

On Friday, May 12, CVCC and the Tech Council will host its annual Technology Fair on the CVCC campus. This event brings together over 300 technology students from regional high schools in a series of projects and competitions in the area of design and drafting. Projects focus on applications from architectural, civil and mechanical design. As part of this event, we are inviting regional industries to participate by hosting a display and/or demonstration of your company’s work. This display would be from 9:00 – 11:00 AM the morning of May 12. To get your company involved, please contact Bob Bailey at 832-7764. We also needed individual volunteers to serve as tour guides. Please contact Jonathan Whitt at 847-1447 or by email at jwhitt@region2000.org to sign-up as a volunteer.

Awards Night 5.25

You are invited to join the Region 2000 Technology Council for a gala evening at the Kirkley Hotel in Lynchburg on May 25, 2005 as you network with the region's foremost entrepreneurs, innovators, educators and economic developers.

The night begins with a networking reception at 6:00PM that icludes complimentary beverages and horderves. Dinner will be served at 7:00PM followed by the awards presentation and keynote address. Reserve your seats now.
 


 
Summer Academies - Sponsors Needed

During the week of August 7-11, 2006, the Region 2000 Technology Council will team up with CVCC to once again offer a series of career academies for the region’s middle school students. These academies are high-quality career exploration events designed to expose middle school students to a variety of technology careers. This summer the following technology areas will be offered:

  • Nuclear energy
  • Information technology
  • Advanced manufacturing
  • Health care
  • Aviation
  • Women in Science and Technology
  • Building technology
  • Criminal Justice/Forensics (NEW!)
We are in need of corporate sponsors for each of the academies. If your company would like sponsorship information please contact Jonathan Whitt at 847- 1447 or by email at jwhitt@region2000.org.

 
Summer Jobs Program

The Tech Council in conjunction with CVCC is hosting our first job fair at CVCC on May 20 for local employers to meet with and interview local high school juniors and seniors for summer job openings they may have. This is not a job shadowing program, we want to help local companies find qualified help.
