Greetings,

We are in the process of updating our membership database and need your assistance. If you have not yet renewed your Tech Council membership for 2007 or returned your member information sheet, please do so as soon as possible. We have a busy Spring ahead, so mark your calendars now for one of our upcoming seminars.

Spring Wired Wednesday

Join us for our Spring Wired Wednesday luncheon on March 7th. Karen Jackson, Director of the Commonwealth's Office of Telework Promotion and Broadband Assistance will be our guest speaker. Ms. Jackson will speak about the state's initiative to foster telecommuting and the concerns that are commonly raised with remote employees. The luncheon will take place at the James River Conference Center from Noon until 1:30 pm. RSVP's are requested to RSVP@region2000.org.

Search Engine Workshop

So You Have A Website, Now What? Learn to maximize your online presence through Search Engine Optimization. With Google and Yahoo reporting a combined total of 417 million daily searches across their advertising networks, search engine optimization (altering a site to increase rankings in the free listings of search engines) and search engine marketing (placing “pay per click” ads in their search results) have joined mainstream marketing. Specialists from the Virginia Electronic Commerce Technology Center (VECTEC) at Christopher Newport University will train you on:

  • Setting Clear Goals for Your Business Website
  • Measuring Success and Tracking Results
  • Pay Per Click Campaigns
  • Free Listings and Building Links
  • Tracking Return on Your Investment
The workshop will be held on March 15th at the Small Business Development Centre on Mill Ridge Rd. from 9AM - 11AM. The cost is $10 per person and advanced registration is required. Please call the Region 2000 SBDC at 582-6170 to register.

TechEd Luncheon

Join us for our first in a series of technology-education luncheons. We are pleased to welcome Graham Doxley, President of Neumont University as our guest speaker. Neumont has quickly become one of the hottest universities in the country by offering a B.S. in Computer Science in less than 3 years. Come hear why Information Week says "Neumont is creating the Next-Gen IT workforce", MSNBC says "Neumont is the most talked about school in America" and why Forbes stated "Neumont is clearly several rungs above". The TechEd luncheon is being co-hosted by the Tech Prep Consortium and the Central VA Governor's School. The event will be held March 21st at the Wingate Inn from Noon until 1:30PM and the cost is $10 per person. Due to limited seating, RSVP's are requested to RSVP@region2000.org.

VA Technology Alliance

The R2KTC is one of ten regional technology councils that formed the Virginia Technology Alliance in 1998. The VTA mission is straight forward: Champion the Success of Virginia's Technology Sector. One of the ways we are accomplishing this is through our legislative agenda. Our second legislative report of the year is found below.

Awards Banquet - May 22

Mark your calendars now for this year's Technology Council Awards Banquet. We are pleased to announce that Mr. Thomas A. Christopher, President and CEO of AREVA NP Inc. will be this year's keynote speaker. More details will be available in next month's newsletter.
