Volunteers Needed

We need volunteers to help with the November 18 regional Lego League robotics competition. We will be hosting approximately 16 teams of 8-10 students (ages 9-14) at Sweet Briar College at this robotics competition.

This is an exciting and fun event but we need approximately 30 volunteers (training provided) to support it. Volunteers fall into one of three categories:

  • 12-15 Judges for the Projects
  • 6 Referees for the Robot competition
  • General logistics (registration, scheduling, announcers, etc.)
There is a Lego team at Dearington Elementary School that needs some adult mentors to help them. All the kids there are first timers. The team meets on Tuesdays from 3:00 – 5:00 PM. This could be a rotating group of folks if someone can’t come every week. There are five other schools in the area with teams that would welcome any help as well.

Lastly, we are always looking for industry folks willing to go into schools to talk about science and technology topics. We have several canned presentations but also develop new ones based on the requests from teachers.

If you can help, please contact the Tech Council office or Bob Bailey at CVCC. Bob can be reached at 832-7764, baileyr@cvcc.vccs.edu.
