CAER and LU’s School of Engineering sign master research agreement
The Center for Advanced Engineering and Research (CAER) this week established a five-year collaborative master research agreement with Liberty University's School of Engineering and Computational Sciences (SECS). This agreement expands the capabilties for research that will support the growth of innovative industries in the greater Lynchburg region. As a member of Virginia’s Region 2000 Partnership, the CAER is dedicated to growing an industry-driven research presence in the region, in support of area companies.
Under the terms established, SECS agrees to provide personnel and expertise to the CAER for administrative and research support services that will benefit the region’s high-tech companies. The CAER will provide funding through federal, state, and industry sources and assist in managing the research projects with LU. The two entities already had a memorandum of understanding on the use of the school’s wireless research lab, which provides a unique electro-magnetic testing environment for electronics companies.
“We have had great support from Liberty for the benefit of local industry and student research,” says Bob Bailey, Executive Director of the CAER. “This agreement takes it that much further by opening the door to future partnerships that will move us forward as a technology and innovation leader in the state.”
Dr. Ron Sones, dean of LU’s School of Engineering, is in agreement. “As Liberty develops its research capability, our professors are excited to work with the Lynchburg area companies, both large and small, to develop economic advantage through applied technologies. We are most grateful to the CAER in helping us help Lynchburg.”
This agreement is the third of its kind for the CAER who has similar pacts with the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech.
