CAER and Lynchburg City Schools sign education agreement
March 8, 2010
The Center for Advanced Engineering and Research
(CAER) has established a Partners in Education Master Partnership with
Lynchburg City Schools to enhance and expand educational opportunities for
students in areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
(S.T.E.M.)
According to CAER Executive Director Bob Bailey, this agreement will heighten
the instruction experience for students by opening up opportunities for them to
utilize the lab space in the CAER’s research and education center which is set
to open in late 2010.
“Our goal is to provide the “real life” applied science experience that
students and teachers so desperately want, and also to assist with internships,
job shadowing programs and mentoring programs to further engage students in
these careers,” Bailey said.
The CAER is dedicated to bringing together partner organizations to foster
knowledge creation, facilitate technology transfer and improve the scientific
and engineering workforce to benefit local industry in Virginia’s Region 2000.
Under the terms of this annual-renewable agreement, both partners will serve on
a planning committee to collaborate on instructional resources and laboratory
facilities. The CAER will also assist in developing a curriculum that supports
the schools’ S.T.E.M. programs and will provide technical support and other
resources needed to enhance these education offerings at Lynchburg City
Schools.
