CEDS committee now accepting local projects that meet regional economic
development strategy objectives

December 20, 2010

Virginia's  Region 2000 Local Government Council is leading a process to complete a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the region. This work will go to the Federal Economic Development Administration and Gov. Robert F. McDonnell, and will be pivotal in obtaining federal infrastructure and development grants for Region 2000 localities in the future.

A CEDS committee of more than 50 business, local government, and non-profit leaders are accepting and documenting projects that make the biggest impact on long-term economic growth in the region. These projects must be listed in the CEDS document to be considered for EDA funding.  Examples of projects include (but are not limited to) infrastructure items for localities such as sewer and water lines, business parks or buildings, research oriented activities, etc.

Region 2000 localities and CEDS committee members may submit projects to the Local Government Council (gmassie@region2000.org) via email by Friday, January 14, 2011. The projects will be scored and prioritized for the CEDS based on the potential jobs they can create and a number of other factors. Please contact Grant Massie at 434-845-3491 for more information or to obtain a CEDS form.

A public meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 12 at 5:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Lynchburg Public Library to communicate goals and objectives in a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) which is currently being developed. Region 2000 citizens are invited to attend the meeting to learn about the CEDS process and to provide comments.
