CEDS committee begins work to develop a regional economic strategy
August 20, 2010
Virginia's Region 2000 Local Government Council kicked off its first meeting
with the newly established Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS)
committee on Thursday, Aug. 19 at the Lynchburg IT Center.
More than 50
business, local government and non-profit leaders have been appointed to the
committee and information will be shared at a series of public meetings held
throughout the year. Co chairs are Lynchburg Mayor Joan Foster and local
business leader Robert Leveque.
The CEDS team will inventory economic
development activities and plan future projects to benefit the region. A
completed CEDS document will go to the Federal Economic Development
Administration and Virginia's Governor, and will be pivotal in obtaining federal
infrastructure and development grants in the future. The document will also
serve as the region's roadmap for economic development projects.
The
first public meeting is planned for Oct. 13 at the City of Lynchburg Public
Library. Watch for more details.
