CEDS Committee probes area’s strengths and weaknesses

September 13, 2010

Virginia's Region 2000 Local Government Council hosted the second meeting of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) committee on Wednesday, September 8 at the Lynchburg IT Center.

This meeting focused on creating a S.W.O.T. (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis for the region. A data analysis of the region was presented, and participants were given an opportunity to voice their opinions on which areas of S.W.O.T. were the most essential to the region.

The CEDS team will inventory economic development activities and plan future projects to benefit the region. A completed CEDS document will go to the Federal Economic Development Administration and Virginia's Governor, and will be pivotal in obtaining federal infrastructure and development grants in the future. The document will also serve as the region's roadmap for economic development projects.
