"Determining our Future" campaign is launched
June 23, 2011
Virginia's Region 2000 Partnership
recently launched its five-year public/private fundraising campaign to continue
to strengthen the region's ability to compete effectively for quality jobs and
new capital investment. Thirteen area leaders are serving as co-chairs for the "Determining
our Future: Together We Grow" campaign aimed at raising $3.95 million in
five-year pledges to carry out its strategic priorities from 2012-2016.
Four of the Partnership's six organizations will benefit from the campaign:
Economic Development Council, Technology Council, Center for Advanced
Engineering & Research, and the Young Professionals of Central Virginia.
The Workforce Investment Board is funded through the federally funded Workforce
Investment Act, while the Local Government Council operates from local
government participation, state resources and project management/contract fees.
In preparation for the campaign, a community assessment of more than 70
regional leaders was conducted in late 2010 to determine the level of
feasibility for raising funds so close to the end of a major recession. "We
knew the timing of this campaign would be tricky, but this region always comes
through and they indicated a strong consensus to support our work going
forward," said Bryan David, Executive Director, Economic Development
Council. "We're so thankful that our business, education and local
government leaders recognize the value that effective regional economic
development brings for Region 2000."
The Determining our Future campaign leaders have set five priorities for
Partnership staff to focus on in its work plan: Innovation, Workforce
Development, Business Retention and Recruitment, Regional
Marketing, and identifying opportunities for Collaboration.
