Central Virginia Disabilities Services Board
The
Central Virginia Disability Services Board (CVDSB), officially
organized in January 1993, was created to stimulate public and local
government awareness and interest in issues concerning persons with
physical and sensory disabilities. The formation of the CVDSB was in
response to 1992 Virginia's General Assembly legislated development
of Disability Services Boards throughout the Commonwealth. The CVDSB,
along with other Disabilities Services Boards across the State serve
three primary functions:
- Provide input to state agencies on services, needs, and priorities of persons with physical and sensory disabilities residing within the local DSB area by conducting a tri-annual local Needs Assessment;
-
Upon request provide information and referral to the participating local governments regarding Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act;
- Administer the Rehabilitative Services Incentive Funds (RSIF) – one and multi-year grants to address underserved or unmet needs identified in the Tri-Annual Needs Assessment (see above) and to provide community programs to persons with physical and/or sensory disabilities.

Government entities represented are, Amherst County, Appomattox County, Bedford County, Campbell County, City of Bedford and the City of Lynchburg.The CVDSB also has at large business representation to the board.
The CVDSB meets a minimum of four (4) times per year to discuss current and future issues pertinent to the needs of the persons with physical and/or sensory disabilities. Contact Kelly Hitchcock at 845-5678 x 218 or khitchcock@region2000.org for meeting times and places.
