Ebenezer Road Neighborhood Revitalization Project
This $1.3 Million project is largely funded through a Community Development Block Grant and serves Cabell Lane and sections of Ebenezer Road in central Amherst County. Key components of the project include the installation of over 8,000 linear feet of water line, giving neighborhood residents access to a clean, reliable water supply. Previously, the area’s water supply, provided by household wells, was heavily laden with iron, causing the water to be unpalatable, and making everyday tasks such as laundering clothing impossible. Additional projects include the construction of a water pump station, which, for the first time, allows the Town of Amherst and the Amherst County Services Authority to exchange water in drought or emergency conditions. Eight low to moderate income families in the neighborhood will receive housing rehabilitation assistance and/or replacement of substandard homes. Project partners include the County of Amherst, Virginia Department of Housing & Community Development, Lynchburg Community Action Group, and Central Virginia Agency on Aging. Project contact: Scott Smith.
