These yearly traditions ensure that something’s going in Region 2000 during nearly every fair-weather month of the year.

Altavista

Uncle Billy’s Day (June)
Live music, crafts, food, children’s entertainment, art/photography show, fireworks

Amherst County

Apple Festival (October)
Apple dishes of all descriptions, plus an arts & crafts bazaar.

Virginia Wine & Garlic Festival, Rebec Vineyards (October)
Wine from six central Virginia wineries, garlic “cook-off,” crafts, demonstrations, music.

Monacan Powwow (May)
Cultural festival celebrating the heritage of the Monacan Indian nation.

Clifford Ruritan Sorghum Festival (October)
Celebrate the fall season by enjoying the Sorghum Molasses Festival, featuring homemade sorghum molasses, brunswick stew, etc. Enjoy amusements, crafts, and entertainment.

Appomattox

Railroad Festival (October)
Live bands, arts and crafts demonstrations, craft and food vendors, fireworks, a fireman's competition, Teddy Bear Parade, fireworks show.

Bedford City

Centerfest (September)
Music, food, art show, street market, kids activities (carnival rides, clowns, face painting).

Bedford Wine Festival (Nov)
Wine Tasting from Bedford Wineries, Holiday Foods & Beverages, Holiday Arts & Crafts, Music & Merriment, Christmas Trees & Wreaths. 

Christmas Parage (Dec)
The Christmas Parade will be in the evening following the Tree Lighting. Santa will be riding at the end of the parade and will be available for visits and pictures afterward.

Lynchburg

Kaleidoscope (September)
A month-long festival of special events, including Day In The Park, Lynchburg Art Festival, Lynchburg Craft Show, Antique Fair, and the internationally recognized Virginia 10-Miler marathon.

James River Batteau Festival (June)
Historic re-enactments, music, children’s entertainment, arts and crafts show, antique car show.

Vineyards

Rebec Vineyardslocated in Amherst County and planted in 1980 is home to the Annual Garlic Festival. Held the second Saturday & Sunday in October, garlic is featured in this food and fun event which includes local wines, music, arts and crafts.

Peaks of Otter Winery and Orchardslocated in Bedford County at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Peaks of Otter Winery is also home to the Johnson Orchards. Visitors to the winery are invited to roam about the farm. There are farm animals of all types, thousands of fruit trees, increasing numbers of grape vines, creeks, ponds, and a picnic area. These and gracious hosts makes this winery uniquely suited to family visits.

White Rock Vineyardslocated in Bedford County and features a tasting room and veranda with outstanding views. First planted in 2000, their wines include a Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Gris and 2 hybrids - Chardonell and Traminette.

Hickory Hill Vineyardshome to award-winning wines in a quiet setting located at beautiful Smith Mountain Lake. Adding to the quaint, quiet setting, the newly expanded winery, tasting room and gift shop are in a renovated 1923 farmhouse. Pack a lunch and enjoy a slower pace in the picnic area overlooking the vineyards.

Stonewall Vineyardsoffers a wide selection of wines. Visitors from all over the state and region stop by for fun, wine tasting and music during weekend festivals featuring Summer Coolers at the Winery and Vineyard. While you are there take a tour of the tasting room and winery.
