Future Focus Expo 2008 a big hit with students

More than 1,000 middle and high school students came out to the 2008 Future Focus Expo held on Oct. 21 at Liberty University's Tolsma Indoor Track. This career fair, now in its third year, featured more than 50 local companies that spotlighted their products and the types of jobs they will need to fill in the future.

"It was a huge success this year," said Jonathan Whitt of the Region 2000 Tech Council, the event organizer and sponsor. "It gives our local companies an opportunity to educate students and parents on careers to consider, and helps young people take control of their future."

Several companies sponsored technology challenges this year, with more than a dozen schools participating. Awards and door prizes were presented by the sponsoring companies: Centra, CTA Communications, Babcock & Wilcox, and Wiley & Wilson/CVCC.
