Future Focus Expo 2008 to spotlight the most promising careers on Oct. 21

Virginia's Region 2000 Technology Council will host its third annual Future Focus Expo on Tuesday, October 21 from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Tolsma Indoor Track at Liberty University. The Expo is a free career fair for middle and high school students, and their parents, and features about 50 local companies and institutions that are focused on growing the pipeline of tomorrow¹s workers.

"We are addressing a consistent workforce issue that we face and that is finding employees with the right skills sets for jobs that we have right here where we live," says Jonathan Whitt, executive director of Virginia¹s Region 2000 Technology Council. "This event gives our local companies an opportunity to educate students and parents on careers to consider, and help young people take control of their future."

The first 500 students to the event will receive a free t-shirt, and there will also be prize giveaways, including a PS3 game system.

As a special feature this year, area 7th and 8th graders will participate in a round of technology challenges where they will compete against each other for prizes throughout the evening.  Awards will be presented to the winning students at 8:30 p.m.

The event will feature careers in:

* Architecture and design

* High tech manufacturing

* Engineering and Science

* Computer programming

* Medical jobs

* Public safety and security

* Teaching, and more!
