GIS and Mapping
Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
What is GIS?
GIS is a system involving several elements: geographic data, trained personnel, computer hardware and software. These entities, when used together, can provide answers to spatial questions.
How is GIS used by Region 2000?
Region 2000 is able to perform geospatial analysis and produce maps
displaying that analysis using ESRI's ArcGIS suite of GIS software.
Data layers available at Region 2000 include (but are not limited to) the following:
-
Base map data: roads, municipal boundaries
-
Census data: population, income, education, age statistics by census block, municipality or region-wide.
-
Environmental data: hydrology, wetlands, soils, watersheds
-
Emergency Service Zones: fire, police, and rescue service areas
-
Utilities Infrastructure data: water and sewer lines & service areas, hydrants, valves, meters, wells
-
Building Footprints and Parcel Data
-
Aerial photography: Region-wide 2002 true-color digital orthoimagery

Atlas Production — We can produce an easy-to-use atlas using
any available data for any of the municipalities we represent or
for the region as a whole. Some sample atlas applications would
include:
-
Emergency Service Zones for use by Public Safety officials
-
School District boundaries for use by school administration
and the public
-
Election District boundaries for use by boards of election and
the public
-
Natural resources for use by decision making bodies
-
Corridor Study mapping for project managers
-
Economic Development Mapping for Site Selection
