Virginia's Region 2000 PartnershipFour Region 2000 organizations are building a new structure to better serve the region. The Virginia's Region 2000 Partnership has been created as a new interwoven network of the Regional Commission, the Economic Development Partnership, the Technology Council and the Workforce Investment Board. The name of the Regional Commission will transition to “Local Government Council” under the new network structure. The Economic Development Partnership will now be called the “Economic Development Council”. The organizational names for the Workforce Investment Board and the Technology Council remain the same. The Partnership organizations will eventually be co-located under one roof for better staff coordination and sharing of resources. A Coordinating Council of representatives of the Partner organizations will meet regularly to coordinate efforts and services in the region. Local Governments throughout the region unanimously endorsed the Commission move to become a partner in the Virginia's Region 2000 Partnership. Bringing the Region 2000 organizations together allows a more centralized focus on economic development for the Region. We'll be able to better help each other working on marketing materials and organizing electronic data about available sites and buildings. Also importantly, it will bring both the private and public sector leadership of the Region together at a coordination and policy recommendation level. The Virginia's Region 2000 network will have the capability to address the issue of leadership from one guiding point and provide an overarching economic development champion. The new Virginia's Region 2000 provides a single point of contact to the public and private sector for regional services, economic development, marketing, and work force training. This approach promotes cost efficiencies by utilizing the concept of shared services such as financial, administrative, physical infrastructure (telephone, data management, internet services), insurance, procurement, and project development/implementation. The new organization provides an opportunity to develop a unified and compelling centralized vision as to how the Region should develop economically and what efforts will be needed to accomplish that vision. Also importantly, Virginia's Region 2000 provides clarity to the public and business community as to where to inquire when in need of assistance with all areas of regional interest in Region 2000.
