New director named to Virginia’s Region 2000 Economic Development Council

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 15, 2008

Bryan David, the former Amherst County Administrator, has been named as the new Executive Director of Virginia’s Region 2000 Economic Development Council, effective May 19, 2008. He replaces Lee Cobb, who will retire in May.

“We’re excited about Bryan’s appointment and we look forward to his leadership,” said Fred Armstrong, President of the EDC board, and CEO of Wiley & Wilson.  “Throughout the selection process, Bryan best demonstrated the type of leadership and strategic approach to economic development that will most benefit this region.”

David comes to Region 2000 from King George County where he served as County Administrator, a region that has experienced a 27 percent growth rate in recent years. Prior to that, he served as County Administrator for Amherst County from 2000-2005, and served on the Region 2000 Economic Development Council and Local Government Council.

David holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Hampden-Sydney College and a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from Virginia Commonwealth University.

As one of six partners in Virginia’s Region 2000 Partnership, the Economic Development Council focuses on retention and growth of the existing employer base within the 2,000 square miles that make up Region 2000, as well as attracting technology-based firms to the region. The Council has also led the effort to establish the Center for Advanced Engineering and Research.
