Region 2000 exceeds national census participation rate
May 13, 2010
The citizens of Virginia’s Region 2000 have answered the call to return census forms by a rate of 77 percent. The national return rate on 2010 census questionnaires was 72 percent, the same rate achieved in Census 2000. Now census takers begin the task of going door-to-door to obtain census responses in person.

Census information affects the numbers of seats a state occupies in the U.S. House of Representatives. And people from many walks of life use census data to advocate for causes, rescue disaster victims, prevent diseases, research markets, locate pools of skilled workers and more.
How did the localities in Region 2000 stack up? Bedford County led with 81 percent participation, followed by Amherst County and Campbell County at 78 percent.
