Region's population figures continue to climb

The U.S. Census Bureau has updated its population estimates for 2008 and the numbers for Region 2000 are higher than the previous year’s estimates. The 2008 population sum of the combined localities within the Region 2000 geographic area is at 245,809.

Region 2000 staff created a chart below that tracks population growth in each of the 10 Region 2000 localities that the U.S. Census Bureau tracks on its website.

In the chart, the highest growth areas from 2000-2008 are in Bedford County and the City of Lynchburg, each experiencing 11 percent growth, while the four towns in the region each experienced a one to two percent loss in population during that same timeframe.

The U.S. 2010 Census will be conducted beginning in March. Forms will be delivered to every residence in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
