Lynchburg
Hillcats—The recently remodeled Lynchburg City Stadium is touted
as one of the most attractive in the league. The Hillcats are part of the
Carolina League and a single-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The season
begins in April and ends in August. Sky boxes are available for purchase and
to rent for a special occasion.
UVA and VT—Located about an hour away from Region 2000 are two of the best schools in the Atlantic Coast Conference—one of the most demanding conferences in the country. Tech and UVA are in-state rivals, playing some of the best teams in the country including Duke, UNC and Miami. UVA and Virginia Tech have nationally-ranked football and basketball teams. Most recently, the Virginia Tech football team played in the 2005 Nokia Sugar Bowl against Auburn University.
Liberty University—Liberty’s Vine Center is a 9,000 seat arena that serves as the home court of the “Flames.”
- Liberty Basketball – the men have had an outstanding profile in the Big South conference and have been near the top of the Big South standings over the past several years. Most recently, the Lady Flames Basketball team has won the Big South conference championship and competed nationally in the NCAA tournament.
- Liberty Football – the Flames football team has been nationally ranked and has players placed on the Big South Preseason All-Conference Football Team.
Central Virginia Storm—The Central Virginia Storm are members of the Mason-Dixon Football League since 1993. The Storm provides an opportunity for young men to continue playing football past their collegiate or scholastic careers. The Storm also provides inexpensive family entertainment and is the only adult amateur football team in the Region!
Pro Sports in Washington DC—The Nation’s Capital is located about 4 hours away from Region 2000, and is home to a number of professional teams including: the Washington Redskins (NFL), Washington Nationals (MLB), Washington Wizards (NBA), Washington Mystics (WNBA), Washington Capitals (NHL) and DC United (MLS).
Bull
Bucking in Boonsboro—“The Greatest Show on Dirt,”
located at Northwind Stables in Bedford County. Twenty shows per year typically
feature 40 cowboys from four or five states in professional bull-riding competition..
This event is hosted every Friday night from January – April, with championships
in the autumn. (The heated indoor arena seats 1200 people.)
Racing
Martinsville Speedway and South Boston Motor Speedway—Late model stock car, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and NASCAR Nextel Cup racing are some of the races found within an hour’s drive of Region 2000.
VIR—Approximately 90 minutes from Region 2000, the Virginia International Raceway features more “specialized” racing events such as antique autos, European sports cars, and motorcycles. The 1,200 acre campus offers 4 road courses, a 5/8 mile Karting course and a variety of off-road courses and terrain. The 4.2 mile road racing course is the longest in the US. For your convenience, a Lodge and Country Club are on site.
Richmond Speedway—This 3/4 mile, D shaped, asphalt track located in Richmond is just a couple of hours away from Region 2000. This location hosts the NASCAR Nextel Cup, Busch, Craftsman Trucks and the Featherlight Modified series.
