Tech-Focused Advocacy
The Technology Council works
in three areas as an advocate for the region's technology focused
business. One, we provide assistance to the region's local economic
developers in the recruitment of new technology firms, technology park
implementation efforts, and the development of the region’s
telecommunication infrastructure. Secondly, we serve
as a public policy advocate for the region on a broad range of
technology issues at the state and local level. And third, we participate in the Virginia Technology Alliance to drive visibility
and awareness of the Region 2000 Technology Council, its members,
and the region to other regions within the state. The activities we
undertake to accomplish these goals include:
-
Broadband/Telecommunications Infrastructure: Lobby and work
directly with providers of telecommunications services to upgrade
and expand their service offerings.
-
Outreach & Advocacy: By working with local school systems,
colleges, universities, other non-profits, and our legislators, we
are the voice for the needs and desires of the technology
organizations we represent.
-
Wireless Hotspots: Actively promote existing and new wireless
hotspots within the region in order to have a more dynamic effect on
business and culture.
-
NoVA
Connect: An initiative to assist Northern Virginia companies who
are looking to expand operations in others part of the state.
-
Center for Advanced Engineering and Research: Promote and
provide assistance to the CAER initiative to bring University lead
research and development assistance to local companies.
