Workshops set to help small business owners

The Region 2000 Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will hold several workshops in the coming weeks to help small business owners. Whether you are just starting your business or wanting to increase sales, the SBDC is a good place to start. Each of these workshops are held at the SBDC, 147 Mill Ridge Road, Lynchburg VA 24502.

  • E-Commerce Workshop Series -- Thursday, September 10, 2009: Is your website reaching your customers? This two-part workshop is sponsored by the SBDC, the Region 2000 Technology Council, and the Virginia E-Commerce Technology Center. You may take one workshop or both. Cost is $10 per workshop or $15 for both.
    1. How to improve your website, 9-11 a.m. - This class will cover best practices for website design and content and you will have an opportunity to have your website evaluated if you like.
    2. Writing content for your website, 1-3 p.m. - This class will help you learn how to best write content for your business website. You will learn how to use writing techniques to inspire, inform and sell to potential buyers.
  • Small Business Tax Planning Strategies - Tuesday, November 10, 2009, 5:30-7:30 p.m.: Learn about the basics of tax planning for your new or existing business. Cost is $10.
  • Start Smart Class - held each month (next one is September 23): This seminar reviews six factors to consider before starting a business: legal structures, financing structures, business planning, market research and methods for deciding if a small business venture is right for you. Cost is $10. Pre-registration required. The next is held on Wednesday, September 12, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at CVCC in Appomattox.
